IADC therapy in Montréal — a gentle path through grief and an unexpected sense of reconnection.

Induced After-Death Communication (IADC) is a brief, EMDR-based therapy that helps ease the deep sadness of grief and loss. In a calm, receptive state, many people experience a profound sense of closeness with the loved one they are grieving.

Heal your grief

Two 90-minute sessions

Complete in two focused sessions over two consecutive days — a brief, contained process rather than open-ended therapy.

Rooted in EMDR

Using the same bilateral stimulation at the heart of EMDR, IADC gently lowers the intensity of grief's sadness — easing the emotional pain so that a sense of reconnection can surface.

A different kind of grief work

Developed by clinical psychologist Dr. Allan Botkin in 1995, IADC grew out of EMDR — an evidence-based trauma therapy — and was adapted specifically to address the intense sadness that accompanies grief and traumatic loss.

The goal at its heart is simple: to soften the pain of loss. As that sadness eases, most clients move into a state of openness in which a great many report a vivid, comforting sense of contact with the person who died — through sight, sound, touch, or an overall sense of presence. The experience is deeply personal, and while it cannot be guaranteed, even clients who do not have it consistently report meaningful relief.

How does IADC unfolds: Two days. Two sessions.

Day One: Releasing the weight

Day Two: Opening to connection

Day Two: Opening to connection

Using a modified EMDR protocol, we work to reduce the most intense feelings — the sadness, guilt, fear, and "unfinished business" that so often accompany loss.

In the calmer, more receptive state that follows, the IADC technique gently cultivates space for a sense of reconnection — a moment of nearness and reassurance with your loved one.

Is it right for you?

THIS WORK MAY BE A FIT IF…

  • You are grieving the death of someone you love and carry ongoing sadness.
  • At least six months to a year has passed since the loss — there is no upper limit; even losses from many years ago can be addressed.
  • You feel able and willing to access and move through strong emotions within a session.
  • You are open to a brief, focused process rather than ongoing weekly therapy — though longer-term support is available if you wish.

About this offering

Specialized, and rare

IADC remains uncommon — practitioners are concentrated in the United States and a handful of countries abroad, with very few offering it anywhere in Canada. I am trained and now completing certification through the IADC International Institute, the organization founded with Dr. Botkin to carry his work forward, and I am proud to be the first therapist offering IADC in Montréal.

My foundation in EMDR underpins this work, and IADC builds directly on that training — bringing a focused, compassionate process to those navigating profound loss. Based in Montréal, I work with clients in person and, where licensing allows, with clients across Canada through secure online sessions.
